Well hopefully Rave’s first
litter of babies will turn out as beautiful as dad. He really shined
today.
Now that Kal-el has finished his Netherlands Champion, it was time
today to show Rave and Sanna for their first time in Holland.
The Pharaoh entry was small. Besides Rave and Sanna in the Open
Class, there was a Champion male who is a Ramsan son and very nice.
His name is also Ramsan!
So I started the day, not sure if Rave could defeat a NL Champion on
the first time he has shown since last December in the US. He had
done only one warm up match here, where he got a Group 2.
But Rave won the breed. Sanna really gave him a run for the money,
but got Best of Opposite. The judge seemed to have trouble making up
her mind and really moved both of them several times before deciding.
Both got the Excellent rating, their first CAC toward their NL
Champion and their first CACIB towards their International Champion
title.
I cannot read the critique because it is in German. Our judge was
from Luxemburg.
The original plan was not to stay for group since this show is 3.5
hours from home. But Pharaoh judging was so late, that it was almost
time for group when breed judging was over. So, I thought why not,
Rave really needs more practice. I am so used to showing Kal-el
right now, that I felt like I was all thumbs with Rave. Joe usually
showed him in the US! I’m more used to Sanna!
So I was pleasantly surprised when we made the cut. I really could
not read this judge and never felt she was looking at us. Usually I
can tell! Plus I had told her this was his first show and he was
really green! It was the same judge for the group as the breed, so I
also knew she knew he was just an Open Class dog.
Here they place the group backwards, and there are 5 placements
instead of 4 like in the US. When it got down to 2 it was Rave and
‘The Basenji Lady’ who ALWAYS wins the group here. The two times I
have placed with Kal-el here, he got a group 2 and 3, and we were
always behind the Basenji!! And the darn Basenji lady even tried
some dirty handling to mess us up! I was stupid enough to tell her
that Rave likes to chase dogs in front of him, so could I go up
front. I was in front of the line to go in the group, and the
steward even said out loud to all that I would go in first because
they hand a sheet with breeds to be announced over the PA system.
Just as I started out, the Basenji’s lady’s daughter cut in front of
me with the Mexican Naked Hound (yes, this is really the breed name
here!). I tried to leave room, but Rave just has such huge side gait,
he caught up and started to really pull to chase him. Luckily that
was the last time he had a dog in front of him as the Naked Hound
did not make the cut. And Rave moved beautiful after that!
So here is Group Winner from the Open Class on his first NL show…
XO Spectacular Spectacular, our “Ravey” boy.

Sorry Joe, I am not great at
stacking a dog on a darn meter high platform!
The group 3 dog is a breed not recognized by AKC. That is the
Podenco Canario. It is like a ‘miniature’ rough coated Ibizan (which
are also called Podencos here!)
There are less shows here per year, but each show is bigger, so
today only 5 of the 10 groups were judged. That means we have to
drive ALL THE WAY back tomorrow for BIS. So keep your fingers
crossed.
Joe, can you fly over right now??
